The draft agenda for this meeting is to focus on four main topics…
* food security; the Community Health Board has been hosting a variety of conversations on this topic
* more affordable housing in the area; Inclusion Works has a housing group working on this, two grant applications have gone in
* transportation; hopefully we’ll hear back good news on an application that Musgo Rider put in to the Province’s new Vibrant Communities fund
* employment / economic development
Also, a new Eastern Shore Community Fund was launched on Valentine’s Day. Goal is to develop an endowment fund that would be able to support critical community organizations on the Shore in the long term. More info at: http://ns.cfns-fcne.ca/?page_id=1696
The idea is to be more of a workshop than a meeting. Both Councillor David Hendsbee and MLA Kevin Murphy have said they will attend. MP Sean Fraser unfortunately is in Ottawa that day. Really grateful for whoever can attend from government. Believe it’s really important to have them on board, listening and sharing information about what is happening at different levels in relation to building more inclusive communities.
The United Way Halifax has also just released their report on Poverty Solutions to Halifax Council. More info on that at: https://www.unitedwayhalifax.ca/poverty-healthy-living/fight-poverty.html
