URB HEARING ON C&D DUMP POSTPONED
The powerful UItility and Review Board has postponed the hearing on the Kiann Management (Lawrence Bellefontaine) appeal of HRM's rejection of its request to rezone a parcel of land on Highway 7 in Porters Lake for use as a construction & demolition debris waste processing facility. The Concerned Residents of Porters Lake, Lake Echo, Preston and Mineville Areas had been mobilizing opponents to testify at this hearing.

The 2019 Eastern Shore Mens Open Slo Pitch League season has come to an end in Musquodoboit Harbour. The league held its annual league playoffs with 11 teams playing for 2 divisional titles. The B Division was decided between The Wild and Harbour Yard Goats, with the Yard Goats (shown above) beating the Wild two straight games to take home the title in the Double knockout format. The deciding game had a final score of 13-11. Finals MVP went to Nick Power of the Yard Goats.
In the A final, it was a tight battle between the Schooners and Myrtles Turtles. The game was decided by just 1 run, 12- 11 with the Turtles (shown below) taking home their 5th straight title. Nick George was the Finals MVP for the Turtles. By winning their 5th straight title, the Turtles tie a long-standing league record of consecutive championships with the great Fence Buster teams of the early 2000’s.

The Odd Sox (shown above) won the B division championship, defeating the Dirty Dozen,with the Angels coming in 3rd. This was the second straight B division championship for the Odd Sox.
The Lady Aces (below) won the A division Championship, defeating last year’s champions Chaos, with the Vixens coming in 3rd place.

In early September, post-tropical storm Dorian hit our area with rain and high winds that resulted in downed trees, storm surges and power outages. Many communities along the Eastern Shore were without power for 5 days or more, leaving residents without heat, hot water, and, in some cases, any means of communication.

Opposition to Nova Scotia’s latest “gold rush” is growing across the province.
On Friday, October 18, the Mining Association of Nova Scotia province put on the Nova Scotia Gold Show, a closed-door conference funded by the Department of Energy & Mines to promote the gold mining industry at the Alt Hotel at Stanfield Airport. On a bleak plot of land facing the hotel, opponents of gold mining from across the province gathered for a “Water Not Gold” protest.
