On November 22, Halifax Transit launched service changes on bus routes serving several Eastern Shore communities, cutting back service in some places, and adding service in others.
North Preston—Routes 61 North Preston and Route 161 North Preston Express
Route 61 North Preston will follow the same routing as the former Route 61 North Preston between Highway 7 and North Preston. But between Highway 7 and Portland Hills Terminal, it will travel on the Forest Hills Parkway and the Cole Harbour Road.
During rush hour, Route 61 will end at the Portland Hills Terminal, and be replaced by the new Route 161 North Preston Express in the peak direction, to provide express service between the Portland Hills Terminal and Downtown Halifax. (Monday-Friday, 6 trips from downtown between 3:04pm and 5:34pm, and six trips from North Preston between 5:34am and 8:04am.)
Porters Lake—Route 401
Route 401 Porters Lake is dropping service on the eastern end and adding service on weekends. Halifax Transit is removing service from Grand Desert and Back Road because of low ridership. The revised Route 401 will begin at the Porters Lake Park & Ride, with stops at the Lakeview Shopping Centre, East Preston Rec Centre, Cole Harbour & Lawrencetown, and Portland Hills Terminal. The new service on Saturday and Sunday will offer three trips from Porters Lake (7:15am, 12:16pm, and 6:16pm) and three trips from Portland Hills Terminal (8:05am, 11:31am, and 5:31pm).
