The Eastern Shore Food Bank is now offering fresh bread from the nearby Dobbit Bakehouse on the first Wednesday of each month.
Paul Nicholl, owner of Dobbit’s, told the Cooperator that the store had been supplying the Food Bank with loaves of frozen bread. “But I wanted to do something better than that,” Nicholl said. “I reached out to my flour suppliers, and they agreed to donate enough flour to make 32 loaves of Granny’s White Bread, which we knew was the most popular bread with families. We provide all the other ingredients. And one of our bakers, Colleen, agreed to donate her time to actually make the bread.”
The fresh bread is available on the first Wednesday of each month; if any fresh bread is left over, Darlene Myers, the executive director of the Food Bank, freezes it until the next week. The Food Bank is located in the Musquodoboit Harbour & District Lions Club building at 43 East Petpeswick Road. For Food Bank hours of operation, call 902-889-9243.
