The Halifax County Exhibition has been entertaining families since 1884, meaning that this year will be the 133rd year of this exciting event. The exhibition takes place in Middle Musquodoboit from August 16th-19th. This year’s theme is “Happy Birthday Canada.” The Middle Musquodoboit Agricultural Society owns and operates the exhibition grounds.
The event starts with a parade at 1 pm on Wednesday August 16, and continues for four days, showcasing highlights from local agriculture. The Exhibition includes ox pulls, open barns, truck pulls, and the annual pageant; there’s something new and exciting on every one of the four days. There’s plenty to eat, including baked goods, pizza, fish & chips, and ice cream.
The Exhibition also has a special tradition of honouring the “Fair Person of the Year.” In 2016, the honourees were Gail and Peter Huybers, who have been involved with the Halifax County Exhibition for more than 30 years. The event relies on its volunteers, and so every year the board chooses someone from an area of the fair to become “Fair Person of the Year.” The 2017 "Fair Person of the Year" is Vickie Dickie, who's worked in office management for the fair for 21 years. Dickie will be recognized during opening ceremonies for the fair in the early evening on August 16.
When the event draws closer, there will be more information on the details of the schedule. For more information about specific scheduled events, and the Halifax County Exhibition itself, visit the website: http://www.halifaxcountyex.com/index.html.
