To the Editor:
I have been reading the 2019 articles/letters re The Gaetz Brook Greenway.
I have lived adjacent to this trail since 1988. Both my husband and myself have and still do use this trail on a regular basis to walk our dog, walk with friends, or use our ATV and snowmobile. We often met other walkers, bikers, and users of ATV’s, dirt bikes and snowmobiles. Everyone got along; everyone participated in picking up garbage, cutting back bushes, and passing the time of day with old friends and new. We all kept the trail alive. At absolutely NO time were we ever “consulted” about the use of this trail – why Lands and Forests continues to spout this so-called “fact” is beyond me. No letter, no pamphlet, no visit, no phone call.
It astounds me that the government have given so much power to such a small group that has resulted in so much dissent in our neighbourhood. Shame on your Mr. Rankin and Mr. Murphy! There would not have been a trail to upgrade had it not been for the original group of users. I sincerely recommend these two elected representatives enjoy a sit down with Mr. Hendsbee to get a true understanding of what real life is like along the Gaetz Brook Greenway.
It’s also “interesting” to note that SATA does not accept new members, and if in the future they do, you are only be accepted if you are 100% in agreement with their principles. Perhaps “interesting” is not the correct word.
