Another lobster season is done. I think for most it was a good season and the boys could use it. It's great to see the young men investing in their future. Most people I don't think understand the cost and resources that go into fishing. It's like any job – but different. You do it for the money and also because you love it.
But in fishing, there are no guarantees. I've never heard of any injuries, but it's a long shore. I'm sure there were a few. Also lobstering, halibut, and herring seasons are some of the most important industries for our communities. The fish plants and workers and truck drivers are vital to the industry.
We would like to thank the boats and crews that donated Lobster to the Birches’ Father's Day Dinner. I don't think it's important to say their names – they know who they are. I do know we could get many more boats to donate but these were adequate.
I don't think people really understand what is involved in fishing but I don't understand what is involved in other people's jobs.
I know one thing – thank God – most times the boat will take more than the man.
[Editor’s note: We received this note from someone who’s been fishing for a long time reminding us of how important the fishing industry is for everyone living on the Eastern Shore.]
