The Four Harbours Legion in East Ship Harbour is launching a Veterans War Memorial Banner Project this fall in collaboration with the Musquodoboit Harbour Area Chamber of Commerce and Civic Affairs (MHACCCA). The Legion will be working with veterans and their families to create banners that will be displayed on poles along Highway 7 from Musquodoboit Harbour east to East Ship Harbour.
Nancy MacCara, the Legion’s Poppy Chair, explained the program in a phone interview with the Cooperator. “We’re working with Allen Print in Dartmouth to design and print the banners,” MacCara said. “The Musquodoboit Chamber will let us use the holders it has on lamp posts along Highway 7.”
Families who wish to honour a veteran should get in touch with the Four Harbours Legion (902-772-2959). MacCara said she had an application form and will walk people through filling it out. The Legion will handle displaying the banners, and then collect them and store them for use next year.
MacCara said that the Legion was also working on a related project to add more names to the Cenotaph at East Jeddore Road. “We’ve learned that there are some names missing on the Cenotaph that we want to add,” MacCara said.
“We’re still working out some of the details,” MacCara said. “We’d like to hear from families by the middle of August at the latest.” Call the Four Harbour Legion for more information at 902-772-2959.
