In a notice of a special meeting on Thursday, December 5 at 7:00 pm, The Lake Echo Community Recreation Society has issued a stark request for new volunteers:
“To keep the Centre alive, we need help. And, we need it by the end of December.”[emphasis in original]
Volunteers run the Community Centre, which provides the community with a wealth of programs and services. And like many volunteer-run organizations, there comes a time when continuing to operate depends on recruiting more volunteers. Without more volunteers, the Society will have to consider whether or not it can continue to operate.
Here is the Society's notice:
Notice of an Important Meeting
Thursday December 5, 2019 7:00 pm
Lake Echo Community Recreation Society
We invite all residents who care about their community to come to this meeting.
The Lake Echo Community Centre is run by volunteers. People just like you who want to have a local Summer Camp for our kids, want our seniors to have a safe and inviting space to socialize and remain active, to have parties and seasonal events where we can enjoy the company of our neighbours and friends, just like any other community.
The Centre provides rented space to the Lions and Lioness Clubs so they can carry out their very important benevolent work in our own community. The Seniors Club and the Food Bank use space from us so they can remain local and close to the people they serve. Most days and evenings, the Centre is busy with all sorts of activities that you’ve told us you want to see. We have plans for much more, too! We deserve to have the space to do what we want to do, right?
But, to keep the Centre alive, we need help. And, we need it by the end of December
We are looking for energetic folks who can plan and help organize events, fundraise, oversee the finances, help with minor repairs or contribute to decision-making by sitting on the Board. Got an idea for what you would like to see at the Centre? Tell us! How would you make it happen?
There are many opportunities for you to lend your experience, your expertise, and a bit of your time. Now more than ever, we want to make the Centre the heart and soul of Lake Echo, particularly now that HRM has agreed to proceed very soon with the beautiful Park plan for the area surrounding the Centre and lakefront.
Come to the meeting on December 5th. It is open to all Society members, or you can become a Society member by giving us your name when you come in. Now you’ve got your voice. Listen to why your help is critical, and hear from others, like you, who want the community centre to thrive and be the heart of Lake Echo. Then tell us how you can help!
If you want to learn more right now:
- Call the Centre at 902.829.2512 or drop in any weekday, 9:00am to 4:00pm, and Natisha or Angela will take your details so one of the Board members can contact you
- Call the Chair, Diane Peters at 902.229.3761 or email at [email protected]
- Call the Secretary Pamela Bouchard at 902.829.2505, or email [email protected]
Thank you for your time and attention, and we look forward to meeting you soon!
