Soul’s Harbour Rescue Mission Women and Children’s Emergency Shelter
This Fundraising Event began with a unique start. The Eastern Shore Lads (ESL) made their live debut with Bruce Walton, Ian Flewwelling, and William Alfred walking along the sides and front of the seating area while playing their guitars. Brian Staple accompanied them by rhythmically tapping his guitar on stage. Together they perform a catchy tune called “Feeling Groovy”, followed by four more songs. Their notable 4 part acapella performances helped to raise the bar for the entire show!
Next up was Gerry and the Staple Clan Band. They previously performed here last fall, and consist of Gerry Davidson on bass, Brian Staple, son Jeff and brother Gary. This four piece, light rock group had the audience participating in a big way (singing and clapping!) on two familiar songs – “Cotton Fields” and “Country Roads”.
Their first public event, The West Petpeswick Guys performed four catchy tunes.Starting off with their take on “Happy People” (Little Big Town) and ending with, and we all can relate to this, “Need a Break” by David Myles. This two-piece group showed exceptional stance/to their songs, including their voice arrangements, and deliverance of witty compliance during their show time. Well done guys!
At this time, Cherry Laxton, Director of the Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, spoke a few words explaining this organization’s needs and directives. Her delivery was very informative, thus explaining the basic W5’s mechanics of supporting such. She was grateful the event was donating 100% of the profits – $1083.00.
After Intermission, Emcee (Rev) Tricia Ingram updated the crowd with a few words, not only thanking everyone for attending, but also reindicated that we all must do our part to help those in need. She also made a note, excuse the pun, to those who worked behind the scenes, as well as the evenings musicians, for all their help.
Then a newcomer to the area with a great voice took stage – William Alfred. His direct, deep voice resonated throughout the evening’s venue starting with “People Get Ready”, and finishing with “Up the Mountain”. During his last melody, his accomplices, the ESL took stage – finishing it with great accuracy. We were fortunate to have him on the roster.
Last on stage was Riversong, a well-known multi-talented group within the Eastern Shore area. Dave and Tricia Ingram, Bruce Walton and Ian Flewwelling performed a wide assortment of light rock, gospel and blues tunes. They began with their own premiere titled “Riversong” and finished out with “Try A little Kindness”. Those in attendance were in stitches when Dave danced on stage while singing ‘Jailhouse Rock’. You couldn’t have got it better than that! A recently retired member of RIversong, Joyce Gould was in attendance and included in the photo.
Ian Flewwelling then spoke on his and Julie’s donation of the Baby Grand Piano to St. Philip Neri Performance Hall dually noted on page 13.
Lastly, all participants then came on stage for the final night’s event performance with ‘Sweet Caroline’ and ‘Fly, Fly Away’. I’m sure everyone had a good time at this (on time) worthy cause. Thanks Guys!
