Did you know?
Nova Scotia Health is committed to the inclusion of patient and family voices in our setting priorities and making important decisions that impact their lives, our community, and the whole health care system.
We invite patients, their family members and/or caregivers to volunteer as active members of one or more of our teams. These members are called Patient Family Advisors (PFA). Serving as a PFA is a great way to make a difference. Your valuable experience as a patient, family member, or caregiver can help make the care we provide even safer. This volunteer opportunity also provides a unique look into your health care system.
Partnering in Community
Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital is currently looking for one or more volunteer Patient Family Advisors (PFAs). Start date is as soon as possible as important work is underway. We would like a patient, family member and/or community voice to help guide our discussions and decisions. People interested in becoming PFAs can complete the following form: https://surveys.novascotia.ca/pfa# Please let us known by phone 902-889-4106, or email [email protected] if you are interested in being a PFA at Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital.
Our People
Patty Henley is a volunteer PFA at Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital in Sheet Harbour. Patty brings her experience as a retired registered nurse (RN) to the PFA role, as well as her own experiences within the health care system. As an RN in an emergency setting, in long-term care, and as a nurse educator in diabetes and sexual health care, Patty always tried to be a patient advocate. She attends the Quality and Patient Safety Committee meetings and the Central Zone Community and Rural Health Project meetings, which allow her to continue to advocate and give a voice to those who may not be heard in an ever-changing health care system.
