One of Musquodoboit Harbour’s most well-known markers, the Irving Gas Station sign, is gone, along with the station’s gas pumps, although the repair shop will stay open for business.
According to station owner Scott Rowlings, the changing economics of the gas stations business, plus twenty-year old equipment that needed to be completely replaced, meant that “the numbers just weren’t working. I met with Irving, and we agreed that we’re going to pull the pumps out.”
The Irving sign, however, will not be going to a landfill. “The sign has gone to a good home,” Rowlings said “It’s going up to Irving’s head office because they don’t have one of this age.”
