Are you longing for spring? What about April in Paris? It’s possible right here in Musquodoboit Harbour at the Old School on April 6. Come to this enchanting evening fundraiser, featuring Don Rieder performing his piece, “Some Change."
“Some Change” is the story of a young man from a small Ohio town who goes to Paris to make it big as a street juggler and busker. He decides to practice in a small gym in Pigalle where he meets some fascinating characters: Madame Billot and Bijou, a cabaret juggler named Le Duc – the real king of clubs, Katoo - a fiery trapeze artist, the acrobatic dancers Lili and Alex – beauty and the beast, to name only a few.
The young busker is juggling for some change to keep himself going, and he’s waiting for a change that will turn his life around. Find out how Paris changes him.
Don Rieder is a clown, dancer, storyteller, and director. He has toured internationally and is a master teacher whose credits include the Cirque du Soleil, The National Circus School in Montreal, The National Theatre School of Canada, and residencies at numerous American and Canadian universities.
“I love storytelling,” Rieder says. “It’s not just talking. Storytelling for me is physical theatre. I have to use my dance, clown and circus background as well as my love of language and word play. I want people to laugh. And I have to move in order to move people.”
In addition to Rieder‘s theatre performance, there will be a street artist sketching guests at cafe tables, French accordion music and a local chanteuse, French café refreshments, and an art auction, all emceed by the always debonair Adrien Blanchette. Come enjoy an evening in Paris!
Doors open at 6:30, performance 7-9. $20 suggested admission.
All proceeds from this fundraiser go to the Amber Moon cancer recovery fund. Amber and her family greatly appreciate the ongoing support of the community in assisting her recovery.
