The positions are for 30 hours a week. The age range is from 15 to 30. You do not have to be enrolled in school, or planning to enroll in school. All three positions pay $16.75, the current minimum wage in Nova Scotia, plus vacation pay. Starting dates may be adjusted if needed.

Videographer, starting May 11--please include links to 3 of your videos
Social Media Manager, starting May 18--please include links to any recent social media managing work and 3 examples of your writing, either on your own social media posts, or in other publications.
Reporter, starting May 25--please include 3 writing samples. You do not need to have worked as a reporter before, so your writing samples can come from other settings, including other jobs, school, etc.
VIDEOGRAPHER
The videographer will work with the editor, the social media manager, and
the reporter to produce video news stories and interviews to be used on
the Cooperator’s website and Facebook page. Online video content has
become an increasingly important part of all news companies, including
print. Like print newspapers across Canada, the Cooperator is moving
towards a future in which it is likely to stop printing and transition to an
entirely online publication. The videographer will train the editor and staff
on the basics of producing video news stories. The videographer will
produce live video broadcasts (via our Facebook Live channel) of public
meetings with elected officials, annual general meeting of local non-profit
groups like the region’s two Chambers of Commerce, the Deanery Project,
the Old School Community Gathering Place, etc. The videographer will also
produce live video broadcasts of major summer events, including the
summer parade in Musquodoboit Harbour, and the Halifax County
Exhibition.
SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER
The social media community manager (SMCM) will work with the editor to
create content for Facebook, Instagram, and other social media. They will
monitor local social media groups and pages to find story ideas, conduct
interviews, and produce written and video journalism. The SMCM will
engage with online followers by responding to messages, comments and
shares that have questions as well as liking or reacting to posts and
comments; these interactions with encourage more comments and
community dialogue and debate. The SMCM wlll also develop an email
marketing campaign to acquire new monthly supporters.
NEWS REPORTER
The News Reporter, newspaper (NR) will work with the Editor to develop
story ideas, conduct interviews, research background material, and write
stories for both the printed edition of the paper and for use on the website and the Facebook page.
The NR will write at least one substantive story
per week. The NR will also do both still and video photography in
connection with story assignments.
