[Note: The province’s announcement of a new high school on the Eastern Shore has raised questions about the future of Gaetz Brook Junior High. The Gaetz Brook Junior High School Advisory Council chair Melanie MacIsaac recently sent the following letter to Education Minister Zack Churchill and MLA Kevin Murphy.]
Good Afternoon,
The members of the SAC wanted to write you to show our support for the inclusion of Gaetz Brook Junior High in the new school development. We were very excited to hear that Eastern Shore District High has finally made the capital funding list and understand there may be an opportunity to also include the Junior High in this project as well. Gaetz Brook is a very out-dated school that has its own list of issues. As recent as last month they had run out of water again during the school day. Our students need an updated facility with all the learning opportunities that are available in other areas of the HRM.
Our communities continue to show growth so having the benefit of having a modern facility for their children would only add to the appeal to moving to the Eastern Shore. A new facility would inspire and engage our teachers, young students and the community as a whole.
I hope this is taken into serious consideration as financially it makes sense to combine the construction of two aged schools into one new modern facility.
Sincerely,
Melanie MacIsaac, SAC Chair
