The Cooperator has been getting a slew of phone calls and emails asking whether the 50-Mile Yard Sale will be happening this September. The simple answer is Yes, on the weekend of September 11-12.
The 50-mile yard sale is one of those anarchistic events that no one organizes. When it started years ago, someone in Middle Musquodoboit put out a pamphlet that sellers could pay $5 for a listing. But over the years, more and more people on the route just started setting up on their lawns and driveways on the weekend after Labour Day.
Last year, when much stricter Covid restrictions were in effect, many people still put their tables out. The Musquodoboit Harbour Lions Club could not hold its usual indoor event featuring more than 100 tables at the skating rink because of limits on the number of people in an indoor space. Because of uncertainties about what the regulations would be this year, the Lions decided not to skip this year as well. People attending this year’s event should keep in mind the Health Department’s regulations about wearing masks indoors.
