Minister of Seniors Filomena Tassi made two stops on the Eastern Shore on Thursday March 7 as part of a tour to meet with stakeholders and visit organizations that support and care for seniors. After a morning tour of a retirement community in Truro, she stopped into the Birches Nursing Home in Musquodoboit Harbour, followed by a late afternoon community meeting at the Old School Gathering Place.

Four days after the March 20thfull moon, a combination of high waves hitting at high tide has opened a new breach in the berm in Lower East Chezzetcook, allowing the fresh water Meisner’s Lake to once again drain out into the ocean, leaving nothing but gasping fish and wide sand-and-mud flats at low tide.

The Eastern Shore Food Bank is now offering fresh bread from the nearby Dobbit Bakehouse on the first Wednesday of each month.
Paul Nicholl, owner of Dobbit’s, told the Cooperator that the store had been supplying the Food Bank with loaves of frozen bread. “But I wanted to do something better than that,” Nicholl said. “I reached out to my flour suppliers, and they agreed to donate enough flour to make 32 loaves of Granny’s White Bread, which we knew was the most popular bread with families. We provide all the other ingredients. And one of our bakers, Colleen, agreed to donate her time to actually make the bread.”

Spring has finally sprung, and life is returning to the Musquodoboit Harbour Railway Museum. According to John Verlinden, President of the Heritage Society, the Museum is looking forward to the new season and welcoming visitors and community members to its facility.
